Whatever your party, don't forget to vote today! We might see a brand new Canada after this election!

By the time most of us get to vote in AB, the election results are usually basically decided already, based on solid voting blocks in Ontario and Quebec, but perhaps not this year. Should be interesting!
The kids at school had to do a student vote. My 8 year old told me he was voting for (the Conservative Party candidate). I asked him why. He said that because he's the Stephen Harpers man, and Steven Harper hasn't really done much wrong the last few years. *snort* How interesting that in Canada we seem to vote for who will do the least damage. ![]() |

Although in our area, the Conservative Party candidate is also our small town's Mayor, so the kids actually "know" him, compared to the four other candidates in our area (NDP, Liberal, Green & Independent).

My kid voted for the green party in their mock election. When I asked him why, he said, "I didn't do enough research" LOL. The Liberal is the uncumbant here, and he'll probably get in again. I think NL tends to be Liberal leaning, but some people have predicted two NDP seats for us this go round.

I took this a little while ago: http://federal.votecompass.ca My results actually surprised me.. voting for a different party than what I match up with on the quiz. |

Actually, this is a wonderfully rational thinking for an 8-year old. I think this is the right way to go about it - too much expectation will lead to disappointment.

Well, our leader got a majority government. With only 40% of the popular vote in the country. So while 60% didn't vote for them, they still get to run the country. Geez, I love our political system!

Yep, we voted yesterday. Not to happy about Harper's majority, but very happy that Quebec voted massively for a federal party instead the Bloc.

Yes, we were also pleased with the Orange Crush! Newfoundland voted against Harper, they only got 1 seat here, my riding was one of the hotly contested ridings, but ultimately the incumbant Liberal won. I was loving the NDP wave in Quebec, I think they are frustrated too with the lack of Federal support, and were hoping for change.

We went NDP here too..I think I have voted NDP since the first election I voted in (I THINK LOL). I knew that conservative would take it here but I still wanted my opinion to count.
Doesn't it make you stop and think and wonder what would happen if people would just get out there and VOTE. |

It really bugs me that only 60% of the people voted! I'm sure some of the 40% will be the first ones to complain when Harper cuts social funding LOL!
I knew either the Liberal or the Conservative would win here, Fabian Manning left his Senate seat to come run here for the Conservatives. He lost though. But I still voted NDP even though I knew what the results would be. I wanted my opinion to count too!

I voted NDP too, but Truro is known to be a Conservative town, so the Tory candidate won about 55% of the vote

No idea if what i'm saying is a valid statement but I wonder if a large population of the 60% of canadians that didn't vote are women & mothers.. and I wonder if canada could get some sort of word out & education to get women out to vote if it would make a difference on who is leading the country...

I voted, but Des didn't.
Silly guy went and changed his driver's license to Alberta already, and they hadn't sent him his photo one yet. I found out after that I could have filled out some paperwork to "vouch" for him, stating he still resided here, although he didn't think that would be fair since he technically spends more time in Alberta than he does here now. I wasn't surprised that Conservatives won in our area, as I stated before, the candidate is our local Mayor, and as that, he has brought about good changes to the area (new business that had wanted to come before, but nothing was ever settled with the old Mayor, as he saw some businesses as competition - he owned a convenience/general store)
