Default Fall TV

So a couple of weeks in...what new shows have you watched and which ones did you like?

I've mostly watched old faves but I did watch Pan Am and Revenge and so far like them both. At least I'll be tuning in for another episode. New Girl was okay..I really like Zooey Deschanel so I hope it gets a little better but since it leads into Raising Hope (our fave comedy) we'll probably watch it anyway.

We have Terra Nova on DVR but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I've heard some people really liked it and some thought it was cheesy so I think I'm going to wait until I hear better stuff before I get invested in it. Every year I do that and then they cancel the show I like.

we're behind too..

Nikki did you not try Person of Interest? It was my favorite new show this season so far. The New Girl was pretty funny and I haven't had a chance to watch Terra Nova yet..other than that just stuck to my old faves!

I'm excited for Homeland to premiere..looks like a good show! (It's on Showtime I think)

I've mainly stuck to old faves but did catch Ringer and Unforgettable. Both were pretty good. I did catch part of an episode of The Playboy Club, it was ok but doubt it's gonna be successful.

I do want to catch Grimm & Once Upon A Time to see what they are all about.

I really liked PanAm, so that one I think I'll keep watching... the Playboy Club I thought was boring, I changed the channel about 20 min in. I like Whittney, too... and the New Girl - I'll watch just because I love Zooey! I don't care for 2 broke girls... but it's on between How I met your mother and Mike and Molly... so I'm usually doing other things at this time. I haven't seen Up all Night - is that on Wed? I'm at my photography class at that time and we don't own a DVR. Which also mean I've missed the Sing Off, too...

I love Whitney, Unforgettable, Prime Suspect, Free Agents. My favorite of the new ones is 2 Broke Girls, hands down. Love that show. Still watching the New Girl. I gave up on Up All Night.. I really wanted to like it but I hated it. I'm trying to think what else is on my DVR and I think that's it for new shows.

The new ones I've watched are New Girl, Ringer, A Gifted Man, Revenge, Person of Interest, 2 Broke Girls, & Up All Night. I watched the first 10 minutes of Suburgatory last night and will watch the rest soon, so not sure if it's a keeper. We'll be recording Terra Nova on Saturday so we'll see how that one goes. The only timer I've deleted after watching it once is A Gifted Man...it just wasn't interesting enough to keep since we have SO many other shows to watch.

I don't typically watch a lot of tv, but I've watched a lot this last 2 weeks. For old shows I've watched Castle, the Mentalist, CSI NY, NCIS LA, and Blue Bloods. I wasn't thrilled with NCIS LA or the Mentalist so I am dropping them. Blue Bloods was okay, but I am dropping it. Thought CSI NY's episode about 9/11 was great and it really makes me want to watch more. Loved Castle so far.

I watched The Sing Off for the first time. So many groups that just don't have a great sound. There were about 4 groups that I liked, including Delilah. I can't get their cover of Grenade out of my head. Might watch again, but I'm not riveted.

For new shows, I only watched A GIfted Man and Pan Am. Pan Am has potential and I'll watch again. Wasn't into a Gifted Man. Not really into the dead ex-wife. LOL

So, I think I'm down to 3-4 shows. Looking forward to Once Upon A Time starting in October.

I've only watched a couple of new shows - Pan Am and Person of Interest and I liked both so will keep watching. Oh, and I've watched The Sing Off and it's new to me, but I'm kinda meh on it and it's getting dismal ratings so who knows if it will return after this season.

Other than Top Shot and Survivor, that's all the current TV I watch right now. House starts on Monday and I'm looking forward to that. The rest of my TV time is spent on Netflix - currently into Numb3rs.

It's on the DVR..we were going to watch it last night but ran out of time...hope to get to it tonight. It's so funny how we go from nothing to watch during the summer..to not enough time to watch all we want to in the fall lol. I haven't had a chance to watch last night's Survivor yet either.

I know I'll love Person of Interest though..Michael Emerson is awesome.

I LOVE Revenge. I think it's going to be a really good show. The acting is eh at times, but a lot of them are newbies. I expect it to get better.

I also really liked The Playboy Club... I think it has a lot more depth than I originally thought. I accidentally clicked on it on Hulu (meaning to click on the side before it), and was in the middle of changing Zach and ended up having to watch the first 5 minutes... by then, I was pretty hooked. I think it's going to be one of the stronger freshmen this fall.

I watched episode one of the New Girl. I thought it was cheesy, felt a lot longer than 30 minutes, but by the end, really redeemed itself. That said, I'll give it a second chance, but I probably won't stick with it unless it really improves a lot.

As for Up All Night, I'm still watching, but I'm also not a fan. I'm watching more for Will Arnett than anything. They're definitely not parents like me-- I'm just a different breed in that I'd rather stay home with my child. I think the show has it's giggles, but overall, it's a pretty strong miss for me. It was an almost-hit the first week, and the second week, it started to lose it for me.

Am I the only one watching All Stars Top Model this year? I know it's not a new show technically, but it's got some new stuff to it, so I'm counting it, K? I think that it's okay, but I'm sick of Tyra. Why do I feel like there are a lot of more qualified people in the world to judge talent? And if I have to hear the word "tooch" one more time, I may have to stop watching.

Also, this is only semi-new, because it's several weeks in, but is anyone else watching The Lying Game on ABC Family? I'm pretty intrigued with that one. Then again, I like pretty much all the ABC Family dramas...

ETA: Dance Moms. I know it's reality, but. It's hilarious! As a former competition dancer, I know a LOT of moms (and some teachers/studio owners) who are like that. For me, it hits close to home in an awesome, hilarious, drama-filled way. Plus, it's fun thinking "Wow, I've been to that competition, it hasn't changed a bit," or "that's changed a LOT from when I was there."

Oh yeah, I half-watched The Playboy Club after The Sing-off this week. It was OK, but the ratings for that are also terrible and it's being said it might be the first show canceled this year.

I think it's hard for Monday night shows during football season. I would sure hate to have a show slated for then. Maybe if it sticks around until after football season, it will have a better chance because I really didn't think it was bad at all.

I liked what I got to see of the Playboy Club but wasn't loving Pan Am. The story & the acting were ok but I didn't like the dialogue.

Woohoo, thanks Nikki! I was totally thinking this morning we needed a thread like this.

Here's my thoughts so far:

Fave New Shows: The Secret Circle and Pan Am. Secret Circle I knew I'd like but Pan Am surprised me. I really loved the mix of glamour with the spyelated intrigue plus I thought Christina Ricci was really charming.

Undecided: Ringer, Terra Nova: I watched the first episodes of both of these and while I liked them I'm not totally convinced I'll stick with them. I did like that Terra Nova was kind of a TV version of Jurassic Park. I didn't expect so much dinoelated action, haha.

Biggest Disappointment: The New Girl. I love quirky comedies but I seriously hated this show. Had Adam and I not been watching together, I wouldn't even have watched the entire episode which is saying something.

Not only was it not funny but Zooey's character was SO over the top, to the point where I honestly wanted to slap her. I mean, there's cute and quirky and then there's borderline how-does-she-function-in-society mental patient and Zooey was definitely channelling the later. I didn't believe for one second that any of those one-dimensional man children would have ever agreed to live with her, haha.

It's a shame too because I think the show has potential but it needs to tone everything down and get a bit more rooted in reality to be funny. I know Fox has already picked it up for a full season because the ratings have been strong but a lot of the comments I've seen in recaps have been similar to mine so it'll be interesting to see if the ratings hold up over the course of the season.

There's a couple of other shows I've recorded but haven't watched. Oh and in response to ANTM All Star Edition all I have to say is Tyra just gets crazier and crazier with each season.

I'm betting it'll be back..this is the first time it's tried a fall run and I don't think it's working well. There's just too much competition. The previous 2 seasons it's been a short series (3-4 weeks) in December when there's NOTHING else on and it's done really well.

I liked Revenge, Terra Nova, Unforgettable, and Secret Circle. I DVR'd Suburgatory but haven't watched it yet. After all the chatter the show got, I think I'll also check out Person of Interest.

Yeah, I kind of think it's like SYTYCD where it's a good show but it can't really compete with so much fall television. l also think maybe there are too many teams this time around. I do love Sara as a judge though!

I totally agree 16 was way too many. In a way it's good that acapella is picking up popularity but it's almost 2 different shows/weeks. I assume they will merge the top 4 from each week into a top 8 and basically start all over again.

I like Sara soo much better than Nicole (although I didn't get rid of her since we're watching X-Factor too and she's on there lol)

Haha, yeah, I'd totally forgotten there were new teams this week and I was like, wait, why don't I recognize any of these people? Plus I thought the groups the first week were WAY better than this week. Hopefully they won't keep them separated for too long although this season is 11 episodes so it could be awhile.

I had read somewhere it was done over the holidays for the previous seasons. I can see why that worked! The judges for this show are the best.

I agree. The high school group was from my area and I felt sooo bad for them. Even in the second set of groups, they were completely over their head. There were some people from the first set that I can totally see going professional with this. The second set of groups wasn't as fun to listen to.

I feel so bad for SONOS. (on the Sing-Off). They are AMAZING. I mean spectacular. But a lot of their sound has to do with they're pedals, which they aren't allowed to use (and I totally understand that). Plus, they just lost their baritone, and the judges kept talking about missing the mid-tones and that's a bummer. I've been fans of theirs for a few years and have seen them live numerous times. I hope America gives them a chance.

I forgot about Suburgatory. I'll have to hulu it when I'm feeling better. I haven't heard anything about it.

I'm watching the Sing Off, but I'm not really a fan of it. Zach has been really enjoying listening to the singing, though, so we watch anyway.

I'm so happy about the return of Community. That's my show! It's not new, but it's awesome, and I feel it deserves a mention.

I thought their song choice killed them. In their intro video they showed them singing more current songs and they seemed really good, especially for high schoolers. But then they went with Hair? Really? Seemed like an odd choice and one that didn't really show off their talents.
